Developed
by Juliu Horvath more than twenty years ago, this
low impact fitness program incorporates movement
patterns based on key principles of ballet, swimming,
gymnastics and yoga which greatly increase flexibility
and range of motion whilst simultaneously toning
and strengthening the body.
Gyrotonic
methodology is a fitness system that engages the
spine and the rest of the body to help it move with
flow in variable circular patterns. The prefix gyro
is derived from the Greek word for spiral: tonic
refers to the physical, mental and emotional healing
that this work can promote.
Exercising muscles while mobilizing and conditioning
ligaments, joints, internal organs and body systems,
Gyrotonic movements simultaneously stretches, strengthens
and gently rotates the body with wavelike movements
that increase the functionality of the spine and
joints.
Introduced to our studio in November 2004, this
method conditions the body from the deeper tissues
outward. The unique pulley-tower system utilizes
friction and weight stacks to resist and/or assist
the body in moving through ranges of motion that
may not be achievable without assistance.
Based
on smooth, circular, flowing movements that incorporate
breathing techniques, the Gyrotonic motion patterns
enable the body to move in a three dimensional way
that is consistent with the design of the human
body. Spiraling motions and joint-articulating movements
are designed to correct faulty posture and compensatory
movement patterns.
