INSTRUCTORS - LISA HOSTMAN

Having danced professionally for most of her adult life, Lisa was first introduced to the Pilates method through work with master teachers Dianne Miller, Maireen Wilde, Matthias Gustavsson and Risa Matthews. While sensing something profound in the physicality, intelligence and depth of the Pilates method, she was not ready to commit to teacher training and continued dancing, teaching and choreographing while completing her MA in Counselling Psychology. After a history of chronic injury, Lisa retired from performing in 2007 and rediscovered the power of the work in assisting with the rehabilitation process. Inspired by the dedication of her teachers and life changing results of the work on clients both physically and emotionally, she interned at Boditree Pilates while completing their certification process. While acknowledging the purely athletic benefits of the Pilates Method, Lisa’s primary interest is in its rehabilitative, pain-management and self-empowering applications. Informed by a deep understanding of the body in movement, studies in Craniosacral therapy, massage and counselling, her main focus lies in helping others find healthier ways of experiencing and living in their own bodies on all levels.
